From the cobblestone alleyways to the quaint squares down near the river, the city of Savannah's reputation is founded upon it's rich history. If you are like me it's the visuals of a place that really get yah. In Savannah it's the historic houses that dramatically draw the eye with their stately and unique structures that've stood tall since people bustled about their daily life in the 19th century. The Harper-Fowlkes house is one of those historic homes. Lucky for us now, they’re open to the public for tours, events and photoshoots
I love film. I love shoots of florals in historic places, and the one I am sharing today is one of my favorites. Here are some details so you can see why that even with the most exquisite, worldly, tangible details-- I can't stop staring at the the organic aesthetic the huge, tangerine-colored roses partnered with the silver-back, Russian olive leaves create. I love this feeling!
Take a look and see if these botanical colors and textures captured with film photography in this place are gonna are all the reason you need to go see this historic Savannah, Georgia home on your next trip down south.
The story, “Sweet Southern Charm,” is up on The Bridal Theory. Photographed at the Harper Fowlkes in Georgia's Historic Savannah, my favorite images of the floral work are sunny centerpieces upon a table and a moody, mustard-toned garden bouquet tied with ribbon by Tono & Co atop one antique chair that has a lot lot of personality.
A stunning Savannah, Georgia native, Anna Heritage holds the luxurious bouquet that abundantly overflows with internationally sourced cream and tangerine colored roses, Certified American Grown protea from California and peonies from Alaska and foraged greenery from my garden. Anna's dress by Pronovias from Bleubelle Bridal is in line with the luxe blooms commissioned for the shoot. A couture vow book by Wedding Story Writer and a luxury ring box from The Mrs Box are perfectly styled upon these grounds just off of Oglethorpe Square by Atlanta-based, Tristan Needham Design.
Many of the images that are artistically captured (on film, by the way) are composed in the moody, low country-like environs for which south Georgia is known. There's an inky stillness especially in the courtyard photos that tickles my curiosity and ignites my imagination about the Harper-Fowlkes home. It makes me grateful for the preservation and restoration of old Georgia houses and neighborhoods like this one that is famous for it's unique "Temple of the Wind" columns, richly furnished interiors, important oil portraits, and original architectural details.
Interestingly, the house that you can see as the backdrop in the images is willed to the Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Georgia with the stipulation that the furnishings remain intact and with the home. The Society of the Cincinnati is a hereditary society with branches in the United States and France that was founded in 1783 to preserve the ideals and fellowship of the Continental Army officers who served during the American Revolution. While developing the composition for this affair, the floral notes were deeply inspired by this place.
At once enchanting, magical and steeped in mysticism, it'a a photo shoot worth checking out-- much like the Colonial House of Flowers bouquet itself.
